Research

Our research has three main goals:
 

  • to identify clinical needs
  • to characterize and understand mechanisms for the onset of disease and the effects after surgical treatment
  • to optimize and always work to achieve the best surgical effect and patient care

Currently, two overall research areas are being processed

Bariatric surgery
Which means surgical intervention in the gastrointestinal tract with weight-reducing purpose.

Metabolic surgery
Here the operations are the same but the purpose of the surgery is to improve the body's metabolism and cure or relieve the metabolic syndrome (insulin resistance / diabetes, blood lipid disorders and high blood pressure).

  • The word bariatric comes from the Greek words baroque / weight and iatricos / healing (NE)
  • The word metabolism comes from the Greek word metabolic / reversal, change (NE)
  • The word Obes comes from Latin's Obe'sus / Swollen / Bold (NE)
